The Ready Made Garment, RMG, sector contributes 78 percent of the total export earning of Bangladesh, which is the second largest RMG exporter to the European Union and the United States. A large part of the 3.4 million workers employed by the industry are female. This series explores the daily lives of these gritty pioneer women in and around the garment factories of Bangladesh. The project covers the garment factory zones of Dhaka, Savar, Gazipur and Chittagong.
Gazi Nafis Ahmed is a documentary photographer born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He sees Bangladesh as a place with many social challenges, and feels compelled to use photography to document the constant changes and impact the collective state of mind of the people. Nafis completed his High School from Bangladesh International Tutorial in 2003 and graduated from the London Guildhall University in Art & Design. His attended the International semester at the prestigious Danish School of Media and Journalism.
Nafis mostly works on autonomous projects. He is represented by VII Photo Agency where he is in the VII Mentor Program working with John Stanmeyer. His work has been published in work in The Guardian, New York Time, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, The New Yorker, Politiken, to name a few & have exhibited in London, Derby, Madrid, SiemReap, Bangalore, Dhaka.
